How to Set Up Allotments

Turn on Allotments and build a backbar budget into each service

Overview

Allotments let you set a product budget for each service, by weight or by cost. Once it's on, every bowl a stylist mixes for that service is checked against the allotment automatically.

If a color formula comes in at or under the allotment, there's nothing extra to charge. If it runs over, SalonScale shows the extra as a clear additional charge, so you know exactly what to add on top of the service price. Allotments give you:

  • Pricing that fits how you already work. If your salon prices color with an allotment, you can keep doing that. There's no need to switch to parts and labor to get started.

  • Every gram above the allotment is accounted for. Product used over the allotment shows up as an additional charge instead of being absorbed by the salon or charged as a flat rate for extra bowls. No guesswork - it's transparent and fair.

  • One clear number to charge. Stylists can see the additional charge per bowl as they mix, and the total additional charge for the completed session, so there's no math at the front desk.

Before you start

  • Services must be set up first. Allotments are added to your existing services. If you haven't set up services yet, do that first.

  • You'll need owner or admin access to turn Allotments on and edit service settings.

Note: Allotments apply to color bowls only. Add-ons such as gloves or foils can't have an allotment.

How to set up Allotments

Step 1: Turn on Allotments in your salon settings

  1. Login to your SalonScale business center and go to the Settings tab in the navigation menu on the left.

  2. From here, select General Settings from the list

  3. Find Allotments on the right hand side and toggle it on.

Step 2: Add an allotment to a service

  1. Go to your Services tab in the main navigation menu on the left and

  2. Select the service you want to add an allotment to and click into the three dots to edit the service.

  3. Under the service name in the editing options you should now see a section labelled "allotments" from here you can decide if you want to use an allotted product weight or cost.

    • By weight: the amount of product included in the service price. Weight uses the unit your salon already measures in, grams or ounces.

    • By cost: the dollar value of product included in the service price.

  4. Enter your allotment amount.

  5. Select Update Service to save.

  1. Repeat for each service you wish to add an allotment for.

    • Allotments are set service by service, so repeat this step for every service you want an allotment on. There's no salon-wide default.

Tip: Product costs from manufacturers go up over time. Review your allotments at least twice a year so they keep matching what you charge.
